All of our Peer Support Team members are required to complete the following four IAFF trainings:

• Behavioral Health Awareness (the prerequisite for IAFF Peer Support)
• IAFF Peer Support
• Safety Planning Intervention for Suicide Prevention
• Disaster Response Peer Support

Additionally, PST members commit to continuing education by attending quarterly video conference trainings with our team clinician.

To further facilitate continual training and education, we add information about mental health education events that we become aware of to our Training Events page.

Yes. Confidentiality is foundational to peer support, and Local 124's PST members all sign an agreement to maintain peer confidentiality. The only exceptions, as stated in our Confidentiality Agreement and Peer Support Team Manual, are the following:

• Danger to self or others.
• Suspected or alleged abuse of a child, spouse, or the elderly.  
• Any instance that requires mandatory reporting by law.
