Healing Perspectives Counseling

Michelle L. Starnes, MSW, LCSW (and our Peer Support Team Clinician)

Trauma Therapist, First Responder Mental Health Specialist, Veteran-Informed Care Provider

I'm a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) who is passionate about supporting the mental health and well-being of firefighters, first responders, and veterans through proven strategies and techniques aimed at getting you unstuck from the things that weigh you down. My approach is built on respect, trust, and tools that work with an emphasis on your individual experience.

What I Stand For:

Understanding: You've spent your life helping others - I'm here to help you. I create a space that feels solid, safe, and focused entirely on helping you move forward - without judgment, pressure, or fluff.

Privacy: Confidentiality is at the core of my practice. Whether you're active duty, retired, or in between, I understand the real concerns around seeking mental health support. Everything we talk about stays between us - no reports, no judgment, no exceptions unless legally required.

Focused on You: Your time, your needs, and your goals come first. I offer flexible scheduling, virtual and in-person options, and a therapy experience that's tailored to your pace - not a cookie-cutter approach. Your healing is built around you.

Growth and Development: I stay on top of the latest research and trauma treatment methods to ensure you get the best care possible. Through continued education, training, and professional development, I refine my practice to meet the changing needs of the people I serve - because you deserve nothing less.

What I Do:

The Cortina Method (TCM): I utilize The Cortina Method to help resolve trauma, limiting beliefs, and emotional distress - often in just 1-2 visits. This approach allows you to heal without requiring you to relive or re-experience all the pain and details in the process. It's fast, focused, and highly effective.

Building Programs: I engage in and design programs and workshops tailored to veterans, firefighters, and first responders with an emphasis on trauma resolution, emotion regulation, and stress reduction utilizing various approaches including TCM and heart coherence techniques through The HeartMath Institute.

Community Connections: I regularly network with other mental health organizations and collaborate with various mental health practitioners to break down barriers to accessing resources, and to raise awareness and support of mental health and well-being in the community. I am also involved in the Suicide Prevention Coalition at Stop Suicide Northeast Indiana.

My Mission: To provide compassionate, culturally competent, and effective trauma treatment to first responders, firefighters, and veterans - empowering them to release what no longer serves them, reclaiming power, clarity, and resilience.
